Incoming Medical Students
Congratulations on being admitted and choosing UNLV for your medical education. This page is designed to give incoming students expanded resources as they approach matriculation with their cohort. The Office of Student Affairs is excited to have you become a part of our community and the future of medicine in Nevada.
In addition to being your support office through your four years of study, Student Affairs will also lead several significant events for you such as orientation, White Coat, Parents and Partners, Career Week, Match Day, and graduation. Student Affairs also collaborates with the offices for clinical education, diversity and inclusion, academic success, student wellness, and student financial services. Finally, Student Affairs works very closely with student government, clubs, and organizations. Career Services is also housed in this area of the school.

Resources
Two important components of student life are your academic schedule and the student handbook. These are updated regularly and serve as a guide for your academic and personal scheduling, as well as outlining policies and procedures followed during the educational experience.

Incoming Student Checklist
The Office of Admissions provides a checklist to all admitted students upon the acceptance of their seat. This list includes tasks required of newly admitted students prior to their final school decision and subsequently continues through items required for entry and enrollment. Also included with the checklist is the outline for required immunizations.

Other Important Information
Prior to the first day of school, incoming students often need information in the categories that appear below. Please also note that many other topics and activities will occur at orientation and includes areas such as: Information technology training and assistance for equipment and systems, library resources, Rebel Cards, lockers, building access cards, campus safety, and more!
Moving to Las Vegas
If you are relocating to Las Vegas, you will want to make sure to visit the websites for county and state resources to establish things such as residency, driver’s license, car registration, voter ID, electric, gas, water, internet service, and trash service. There are three incorporated areas in the valley: Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas. We recommend visiting official state, county, and city websites for more information on relocation and the entities that you will need most.

Parking Permits at UNLV
Shadow Lane Campus requires student parking permits. Students can purchase these:
- Online: You can order these online and receive them at your home address.
- In Person at Parking & Transportation Services: You can use a check or cash when paying in person. You will receive a temporary permit for your car. The actual permit will be mailed to you. This services is available at the University Police Services Substation on the Shadow Lane Campus.
Orientation Schedule
The Office of Student Affairs releases the orientation schedule to incoming students by July 1st each year.
Technical Standards and Accommodations
Each of you read and certified that you can meet the Technical Standards of the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV. Students who may require accommodations should contact the Disability Resources Center at the UNLV main campus. Students can contact Bryan Hilbert, Director, bryan.hilbert@unlv.edu.
Disability Services
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is committed to providing equal access to its programs and services for students who experience disabilities. The Disability Resource Center (DRC) was established to support these goals and to provide assistance with college learning through provision of recommended academic adjustments, auxiliary services, and advocacy.
The DRC goal is to provide students with effective accommodations as required by Federal regulations, and in consideration of the essential elements of the MD program. Accommodations will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Students requesting accommodations through the DRC must:
- Complete and submit the DRC Online Application Form. This will initiate the process and begin the communication with DRC staff.
- Provide the DRC with medical, psychological, or psychoeducational documentation that supports your request. You may fax, mail, e-mail, or hand deliver the documentation to the DRC office on the main University Campus in SSC-A 143.
- DRC Staff will contact you to gather additional information and schedule an intake.
- Request your accommodations for EVERY phase of your program.
Students with disabilities attending Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV do not need to register with DRC unless they are interested in obtaining accommodations or services from the DRC. Students are responsible for requesting accommodations. The UNLV Disability Resource Center (DRC) coordinates the review and accommodation process for medical students. Students who have received accommodations in the past are encouraged to contact the UNLV Disability Resources Center as early as possible prior to the start of medical school. Health Insurance and Student Health Center
All students will be enrolled in student health insurance (waiver information will be available for those who carry other coverage) and all students will gain access to the UNLV Student Health Center as an incoming student. The date of availability for access to the UNLV student insurance and health services will be released by the Office of Student Affairs.
If you need medical attention prior to your official student status and services access, please visit a local urgent care center or hospital.
Computing
Incoming students will receive an iPad at orientation.
Students are also given up to $1,000 in the cost of attendance to obtain student loan funds to purchase any other computing equipment they may need to start medical school.
Academic Support Services
The Office of Academic Support Services within the School of Medicine will begin reaching out to incoming students for one-on-one appointments around the start of school to begin building best practices for medical school study habits. Please watch for communications from the office director, Mr. Adeste Sipin.
Financial Aid
Admitted and incoming student receive ongoing information regarding cost of attendance, financial aid, billing, and scholarships from the Office of Student Financial Services. If you need assistance in this area, please contact Ms. Cindy Stella or visit the Student Financial Services website.
