The Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV Class of 2023 is accepting proposals for large-scale artwork until June 5, 2023. This call is open to all UNLV students, faculty, and staff. Artists may work individually or in teams of two. The selected artist(s) will receive $1,500.00 honoraria after completion of the work. The final artwork will be displayed on a wall in the Medical Education Building. Printing and installation will be provided. Project requirements are as follows:

Theme
The artwork should address one main theme from the following options:

  • Wellness and mental health
  • Diversity, inclusion, and acceptance
  • Raising doctors to build up Las Vegas and Southern Nevada
  • The connection between UNLV and our broader Las Vegas community
  • Overcoming challenges and obstacles

The artwork should also reflect the School’s mission:
The Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV will serve our patients, students, medical professionals, and community as a transformational force for improving healthcare in Nevada. This is accomplished by delivering evidence-based, innovative centers of excellence in medical education and research, coupled with cost-effective, high-quality care that improves the health of our community members throughout their lifespan, becoming an integral contributor to an Academic Health Center, and creating a culture of collaboration through inclusion and excellence.

Scale and Details

  • The piece may be hand-painted or a digital design
  • The artwork should align with the design and color palette within the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV. Contact Nichole Staker at UNLV Planning & Construction for information on the color palette, if needed: nichole.staker@unlv.edu
  • Size: Approximately 12’6” wide x 9'7” tall
  • Should fit the large, glass wall at the entry to the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV Library (Learning Commons)

Project Schedule

  • Applications accepted through June 5 at 9 a.m.
  • Judging will take place the week of June 23
    • Representatives from Planning & Construction, the Art Department, and the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV will review and rate submissions  
    • Installation: August 2023

  • Artist(s) resume, if applicable.
  • Examples of artist(s) previous artworks, especially large-scale work
  • Include the artist(s) first and last name in all files

Additional Details

  • All artwork must comply with the UNLV University Artwork Policy
  • UNLV faculty or student installed public art under this program is not permanent, and may be removed at the discretion of UNLV. 
  • The artist agrees that the work is designed to be temporary and agrees further to waive his/her/their right under the National Artist Rights Act as they pertain to their work and the specific project. 
  • Further, the artist agrees that at some point the art will be removed and/or disposed of. The artist agrees that UNLV does not need to notify or seek permission of any other party prior to removing, altering, or disposing of any artwork.
